Sacrament
How Sacrament looks and sounds: the mark, the colours, the type and the voice. Everything on this page is read from the same files the site and the tools use (theme.css), so it cannot drift out of date.
A coin, a cross and a map tile
The mark is a hex, the tile every Sacrament map is built from. Inside it sits a coin, the token you spend each round. Cut through the coin is a cross: the Chapel of Leo, which has forgiven everything you are about to do. Plague violet for the Chapel, candle green for the light that is left, bone for the host.
The mark and the wordmark
Use the horizontal logo by default and the stacked one where space is square. Use the mark alone for avatars, icons and stamps. The wordmark is set in Pirata One and drawn as outlines, so the files need no font.
Clear space
Leave room around the logo equal to the width of the coin. Nothing else sits inside it.
Smallest size
Horizontal logo: 120 px wide. Mark: 16 px, using the favicon version below 32 px.
Do
- Use the dark version on near-black and the light version on light grey.
- Keep the mark upright. The hex has a point at the top.
- Use the one-colour mark when you can only print one ink.
Don’t
- Recolour the cross or the coin, or swap the purple for another colour.
- Stretch, rotate, outline or add shadows or glows.
- Place the logo on a busy picture without a dark panel behind it.
- Retype the wordmark in another font. Use the file.
Plague violet, candle green, bone
Near-black ground, cool grey text, one violet for the Chapel and one green for the light that is left. Change a colour once in theme.css and the site, the VTT and the builders all follow. The values below are read live from the page.
Contrast is measured against the page background. Aim for 4.5 or more for body text, 3 or more for large headings.

IBM Plex MonoPatient, practical, never cruel for pleasure
Sacrament sounds like the Chapel of Leo: calm, exact and faintly amused. It explains the horror in the tone of a clerk reading a ledger. Cruel on schedule, not for sport.
- Say it plainly. “Take 2 harm to reduce the Looming Horror by 1 step.” Not “Embrace the pain.”
- Short sentences, concrete nouns. Candles, ledgers, bells, tithes, rats, coin.
- Dry, not wacky. The joke is that the institution is reasonable about terrible things.
- Instructions are friendly, the world is not. Rules and buttons are clear and kind. Fiction can be grim.
- Avoid gore for effect, modern slang, exclamation marks and the word “epic”.

“We do not ask whether it is right. We ask whether it will hold.”
Buttons, tokens and tiles
The tools use the same parts as the website. Buttons have a torn edge, tokens are bone coins with a candle rim, and map zones are hexes.
