Sacrament RPG

Your first game

A short route from your first hero to your first turn, with separate rules guides for players and GMs.

Sacrament is a conversation: the GM describes a situation, the players say what their heroes do, and dice settle uncertain outcomes. You can learn as you play. No account or installation is needed.

I am a player

  1. Get an invitation. Ask the GM for their invitation link or six-letter table code.
  2. Create a hero. Open My heroes in this browser, choose a starting focus and press Generate a hero. Change the name and vow if you like; press Keep this hero to save it. The generator supplies scores, Effort and a starting kit.
  3. Join the table. Open the invitation or enter the code, then enter your player name. Choose Bring a hero to copy your saved hero into this game, or Play beside a hero your GM has provided.
  4. Find your actions. Choose an action in Play, then roll in the bottom strip. My character opens your sheet for managing scores, equipment and notes. Select an enemy before using a weapon. A successful attack leads to Roll damage; the result applies to the chosen target automatically. Tell the group what you are doing and let the GM guide your first roll.

I am the GM

  1. Make a table. Open Run a table. Start with the sample encounter to learn the controls, or untick it to begin empty.
  2. Keep your access safe. In the Table tab, save the private GM recovery link. Keep it to yourself. Use the separate Copy invite link to invite players.
  3. Prepare a simple encounter. In Scene, add an enemy and an obstacle. Keep unrevealed cards hidden. In Play, arrange the turn order. Set the Target and explain any house rules.
  4. Walk through a first turn. Have a player select the enemy, use a weapon, roll damage and see the result applied automatically. The GM then presses Next turn in Play. The footer's GM dice can roll shared or private dice without changing HP.

The five rules to remember first

Returning, backups and help

Return to the same table address in the same browser to resume. Your tables on the VTT entry page lists games remembered on that device. GMs can use Back to my tables without forgetting their access; Forget is a separate action. On another browser, players rejoin and ask the GM to reassign their existing hero; GMs use their private recovery link.

My heroes saves locally, not to an account. Download a private heroes backup before clearing browser data or changing device. On My heroes, select that JSON file under Restore a heroes backup, review the preview and press Restore backup. Your existing heroes are kept. Bringing a hero into a game creates a separate copy; later changes to the local hero do not update it.

The table handles shared rolls and supported mechanics. The GM decides range, esoteric effects, free-text custom effects and Horror consequences. Both guides distinguish those rulings from automation. The rules are still being playtested.
